don't judge me...

okay, so this 'would you rather' might be considered a bit vain if you choose a certain answer. i'm pretty confident that the majority of you will choose the latter, but seriously, just answer what first comes to your mind.

okay enough disclosure....

would you rather have your child be incredibly good looking, or incredibly smart?

if i can get 10 comments, i'll tell you what went through my mind.

As long as the child isn't stupid, I'd go with really good looking. A lot of education is just memorization, and with hard work, anyone can learn. Even w/out your disclosure statement, I'd say good looking, because, apparently I'm that shallow! Looks can get ya far in life!

in today's technolgy world it doesn't matter as much what a person looks like to ensure their success. as long as my child was happy, i'd probably choose smart. the bible says that jesus wasn't that good looking, and he changed the world.

can i go with smart, if my kid can at least be relatively pleasant looking? i mean, i wouldn't want my smarty pants of a child to scare people...

I'd have to agree with the first person who commented...In this day & age, the career options are endless & people can be very successful without having to be traditionally "book smart." So, call me vain, but I'd take an incredibly good looking kid any day of the week!

(Oh, but you better believe I would raise him/her to be a kind, considerate person. I don't have much tolerance for arrogant people, & I certainly wouldn't allow any big egos in my house, ha ha.)

Btw, there are many different types of "smart." I was just assuming you meant a book smart type person, but maybe that's not what you were implying.

I've known plenty of people who received a 4.3 GPA all throughout their lengthy education, yet they don't have a lick of street smarts & don't exist easily in this world.

I've also known people who constantly struggled just to make C's (that would be more like me!) but who have people skills & are savvy to the ways of the world.

So, yeah. Thank goodness that there's such a variety of people here on earth. The diversity truly makes the world go round!

i'm going with smarts. growing up, my sister was considered the incredibly beautiful one and i was considered the smart one. i don't remember ever having a complex about it and i think i turned out ok.

but maybe i'm so quick to answer smart because i already think my kids are so cute.

Smart. No doubt about it. Smarts can lead to wits. Wits can lead to good comedy which can lead to good personality which can improve anyones looks. Maybe that's just what I'm banking on :)

i asked bill and he said: if it's a boy, then smart - that way he can be successful and support his family. if it's a girl, then beautiful because odds are she'll pull some smart, successful man and be set.

sorry about the double posting. not sure what happened. one last thought - if you do have an incredibly beautiful girl, you have to worry about all those guys hitting on her...

ok, that's more than 10 comments...your turn.

wow, you guys are awesome, way to come through for me... i feel loved. def some good thoughts, i'm super impressed so many of you were out with the incredibly good looking choice. i figured everyone would go with smart.
for me, when it first came to my mind, i def went to incredibly good looking. when i asked b, he said smart (of course) and told me he already knew what i would choose. after thinking about it, i decided on smart as boring as it is. some good thoughts bill, but need i remind you, a woman doesn't need a man to to be successful even if she's only got her looks:)
