remember this tickle?

so i'm feeling like our introductory week of tickled to meet you tuesdays worked out pretty good. thanks again for making me feel like i'm not ranting to an empty screen.
this week, i'm already breaking the mold. i'm not even going to reach into that clever little box i didn't invent to blow your minds with some heart wrenching question. instead, i actually came up with this one on my own. its something i'm really excited about and honestly would love it to be something bigger someday.
with that said, some of you may remember a mere 2 posts ago where i gave tribute to my man. with all these kids running around, i often forget my baby daddy. even though i didn't get a huge response comment wise (surprise surprise) i did have a lot of people tell or email how much they appreciated it. though the vast majority were women, surprisingly a few of them were men.
as mothers, i feel like we often forget how much we love romance. after 10 years of being married, kids, work, finances it quickly falls to the back burner. but whether its because you watched cinderella for the first time with your 3 yr old daughter and saw that glimmer in her eyes, or you started reading twilight- we remember, that try as we might to suppress or forget it, we love to be wooed, we love to be romanced, we love to be wanted, and mostly, we love to be loved.
so with that said, i really want to know...

what was one main thing that made you fall in love with your husband/wife/partner so many years ago?

feel free to make it long or short.... you might be surprised at how fun it is to access those memories you've long since thought of. oh and guys (i know some of you are reading)- i'm not making any promises, but if you weigh in-- you just might get laid tonight your favorite home-cooked meal.

For me, it wasn't one single thing, it was one single night. Lane was 17 I think? I was 18. I went to his show somewhere up north and he asked if he could ride home with me. Somehow we turned a 3 hour drive into an 8 hour drive. We stopped so many times to go to the bathroom and ended up sitting and talking on so many different curbs. We smoked sooo many cigarettes and talked for hours. We'd been friends forever but for some reason, that night made me realize that I needed that kid in my life. (He really was a kid at this point...) So I think a few days after that I told him that I was going to marry him. And 11 months later we were married.

Good post Holly. I LOVE stuff like this. And you're right, it is fun to revisit these memories. With all that's going on in life we forget why we liked them in the first place... And thanks to you, I'm gonna give Lane a big fat kiss when he gets home :)

Jason could and can still always make me laugh. That's what did it.

I loved that Eric was different and unique. He didn't care and still doesn't care what people think of him. He's just himself...totally sold out for Jesus. I also happened to notice on our first beach date that he didn't look to shabby in his boardshorts either.

i loved David since 9th grade French class when he made me laugh. i tired to sit by him in every class after that because i knew he was smart as well as fun. i lured him to Hawaii and living and working there together was the ultimate romance for us. we keep that up surrounding ourselves with orchids and tropical plants. this fall we'll be married 35 years. it still amazes me. God has been faithful to us.

There are so many things I love about my husband but the very first things that made me fall in love with him are that he's very funny and witty and he's the only person (man or woman) who was able to discuss/debate early Renaissance England with me (ha ha yes I am a total history nerd and that kind of stuff is important to me!). So basically I fell head over heals in love with his wit and his intelligence, (and he just happens to be incredibly handsome and has an accent!!) I love him for even more reasons now but those were the first......

Holly, I love your blog and read it often, however I am usually reading it via iphone while feeding the baby so I never get a chance to comment! ANYWAY, I think this is a great question and I have a great story and it all started with my Great Dane, Capone and how his diarrhea found it's way into my body...ummmm...yes...i believe the word is "NASTY"!! Well, all of this landed me at the hospital and Alan being the noble steed that he is stayed right by my side the whole time...and it got pretty ugly! After getting checked in and organized the lovely nurse thought it would be a pleasant experience for me to drink a gallon of chalk. Needless to say, immediately I was soaked in chalky vomit and diarrhea! It was quite a sight. Now being one of 13, things like this are everyday occurances and really not that big of a deal. Alan, on the other hand, is one of two and considering his sister is 10 years older he basically qualifies as an only child and basically he has NEVER seen anything like this! All of a sudden there was this magic moment when I looked over at him and told him how sorry I was that he had to see all of this when we had only been dating for like three weeks! He looked over at me, drenched in my own waste, and said, "Babe, I love you, I think you look beautiful"! I knew at this point we would get married!

I first fell in love with RJ because he took me on adventures. He wasn't one of those guys who liked to do exciting things with his buddies and then tell me about them - he always wanted me to come along. Surfing, back packing, hiking, traveling - from the very beginning we were partners. And he always included me in his big dreams. I love that he's a dreamer (b/c I am too). So I guess he wooed me with adventure and once the fun started I saw more and more of his character and fell more and more in love.

I suppose it was her vulnerability. Whatever she felt, she wore on her sleeve, which is easy with the joyful stuff. I loved that she let people into her heartache as well though. With Jenn, what you see is what you get. It's one of the many traits that has led me to believe that a lifetime isn't nearly long enough with this woman.

I was set up w/my husband on a blind date. We had such a great first date, the conversation was so easy, we talked about diarrhea accidents on the first date and I was sold...not really, it was and is so comfortable to be around him and to talk to him. I never had a moment where I KNEW he was the one, it all just fell into place.

there were a lot of things with Travis, but the one thing that stands out is that he always loved me. Even when everyone was against us, he fought for us. And he still does. That is hard to find in a man these days!

Funny. We were thinking along the same lines. I wrote something similar on my blog this week!

Well Holly, I had to weigh in on this one. Phillip wanted me to say it was his big...well...ahem, you know. Although that is true and great and did help me fall madly in love with him (he is sitting right next to me) I have to admit it was his attentiveness, hosnesty and ability to communicate. He would often ask, "is everything ok? you seem preoccupied." I didn't realize I was preoccupied until he pointed it out. I guess generally he helped me grow into a better person. This is what I recognized when we were dating and it is still true today! Plus, he makes me laugh! :)

so hard to pick just one thing...a couple of the first biggies would have to be his sensitivity, and that he was an amazing surfer. Probably the most defining experience was when we really first got to know one another during a 8hr drive in the pouring el nino rain from Santa Barbara to Orange County where we were able to talk about all sorts of stuff... we had just barely met and never once was there an awkward quiet moment.

Oh boy.. I could get all sentimental here..but there is really not one thing that made me fall in love him. I can say this here too..each day he amazes me and I fall even more. That said, in the beginning it was all about Soil Morphology class, the ugly purple shirt with the pocket that he wore so confidently and oh, so wrongly(not a word, but it will work here) and the cake fight..Oh do I love him:)
